220 Triathlon Magazine Review: Pose Method of Running
Radically change your form, eliminate injuries, enhance endurance, raise speed… have we got your attention yet? If not, maybe it's best you leave Dr. Romanov's comprehensive biomechanical bible alone. We feel, however, you'd be making a mistake.
For nearly 30 years the current coach of Andrew Johns has been honing his run technique - and it's all been brought together in this truly stimulating read.
The Pose Method is based upon using gravity to drive you forward. You run on the balls of your feet. Your head, shoulders, hips and foot remain in line throughout - the S-like stance was conceived to emulate the rear legs of animals that run far and fast. And that's about it. But it's this simplicity that'll have athletes round the country spending the winter "freefalling".
Drills to reach this running technique are explained in minute form and brought to life with accurate illustrations. We're shown accompanying exercises - primarily for the hamstrings and hips - that are vital to a perfect Pose. We're also shown how to trail run, run uphill, on sand… every real-life scenario is covered.
We've been practicing the Pose Method and we're convinced our running will evolve to a new injury-free level. Amazing really, since all you do is pose-fall-pose.
