SHOE SELECTION

Click here to return to the main page The Pose Running technique goes against everything traditionally taught about running - accordingly, the running shoes suitable for it are not your traditional stably cushioned clunkers.

What kind of shoes are suitable for running? Dr.Romanov recommends wearing lightweight shoes with thinner soles. Browse through the selection below to read some posted reviews, to get a better idea of what you need and find the right running shoes for you!

Vibram Five Fingers

Originally made for sailing and boating, these unique looking shoes became a hit among runners. The only shoes on the market that not only feel barefoot but also have an actual barefoot imprint on the sole of the shoe. Very well made shoes. The only potential issue could be the very toe boxes that make this shoe so unique. For some, the sizing of the toe boxes might not work.

READ/POST REVIEWS

I'm with Jason on this one. I do most of my running using the Five Fingers. I don't mind the toe separation (and I can get them on and secured as fast as I can with any other shoe). As with any shoe, fit is critical. I actually wear a women's 41 because I found that they fit me better than the men's. You might consider that if you feel that your toes are getting separated too much. My first pair got worn to the point that they were like a second layer of skin, but finally I got a hole in the bottom. I only noticed because dirt started coming into the shoe. (Someone is bound to ask how many miles I got out of them. I don't know. I used to keep a meticulous running log, but I don't any more. Over 1,000 probably.)

I run exclusively in my VFFs (when not barefoot) and have not had any problem with toe separation and I started with the classic 'cramped toes' look. Your toes will naturally 'splay' more when running Pose anyway (one of the reasons I do not like 'normal' shoes).

So it comes down to preference. I have run so many miles in my VFFs that any sort of 'cushion' in a shoe now creeps me out. There are some seams on the inside that, depending on your foot shape, may rub a little in a couple of areas. This can be remedied with a little athletic tape or wearing the toe socks.

In theory it is a neat idea and certainly represents a step in the right direction towards minimalist shoes. However, the "flaw" in the VFF "system" is that they seperate your toes beyond what they would naturally do on your own. Some people find this very uncomfortable, some don't. But it does change how your feet naturally function which is not good.

Plus they are almost twice as heavy as my Mizunos.

Great shoe and fun run.
