June 24-25, 2006
WESTERN STATES 100 by Brian MacKenzie
4am Saturday, June 24th, day of reckoning! I arrive at Squaw Valley fed and ready to start this thing. I slept about 4.5 hours the night before and it is plenty. My crew seems to be ready as well. My wife and Patsy are what look like trying to size this thing up, and Jeff is just pumping with the constant positive energy that he portrays. I am a little nervous, but more anxious to start this race. The anticipation has been killing me. Click here to read full article »
Coaching Philosophy
To take an integrated approach to human performance. Focusing on the
individuals weaknesses so that we create functional exercises specific to
the athletes (athlete: ANYONE WHO TRAINS) needs through complex, closed
chain, multi-joint exercises which create overwhelming strengths. To provide
optimum training for the individual in an ethical, and the most efficient
way possible, and to continually educate oneself with the top minds and
educators in these fields.
Experience/Credentials
Brian has been training clients for 6 years in and around Orange County,
CA. He is certified through the International Sports Sciences
Association (ISSA). Attended Orange Coast Colleges Fitness Specialist
Program and volunteered with its adaptive PE program. Physical therapy
assistant at Coast Therapy in Huntington Beach, California.

Athletic History:
Brian began competitive swimming at the age of 4. He has been coached in swimming for roughly 20+ years. He played club soccer until the age of 13, when he found water polo. Water Polo gave him an outlet for a lot of rebellious and destructive behavior. He started cycling in his teens and gave up until he began competing as an age group triathlete in 2001. Triathlon was such a humbling experience it was no wonder it created such a spark. He has competed in every level of triathlon except Olympic distance. He finished his first Ironman (Ironman Canada) in 2004; he pulled out of Ironman Arizona 2005 because of a pulled hamstring.
Brian has competed in several ultra marathons including plans to be in the 2006 Western States 100 (www.ws100.com) and the Angeles Crest 100 (www.ac100.com). He currently trains in Brazilian style Ju-Jitsu, and does some boxing. His goals are to still compete in either Ironman or Double and Triple Ironman's for the
future, but is currently involved in and loving Ultra Running.
- Ironman age group competitor
- Current Ultra runner
- 25 year history in sports (baseball, soccer, BMX, skateboarding, surfing, swimming, cycling, running)
