What does a guy have to do to run a sub 35 minute 10km!? All the discipline, all the hard work, the determination, the sacrifices, they all didn't seem to matter as I always fell just short. A sub 3 hour marathon and sub 1:20 half marathon were bench mark goal times I wanted to achieve but were proving to be huge barriers. I often came very close, but never accomplished these personal bests.
I have been running my entire life and in grade 1 realized I had a passion and love for running when my teacher put me in the primary (Grade 3) track & field meet. I attended The University College of the Fraser Valley from 1998-2002, where I met Dr. Graham Fletcher. He was my Biomechanics professor and eventually my triathlon coach. I owe tremendous gratitude to Graham for introducing me to and coaching me in the Pose Method of Running in 2001. With his guidance, coaching and knowledge of Pose running, he took my triathlon racing to a level I never thought possible. I raced in the Triathlon World Championships in Cancun Mexico in 2002. I ran a PB 10km time trial with a time of 32:46. Not only did I notice a dramatic improvement in my running efficiency and finishing times, but my mental stamina was now on par with Tiger Woods. After spending the time and effort learning the Pose Method of Running, I discovered I had a deeper, stronger and more focused connection with my body. This has translated into many successes, not only in my running, but all my sporting endeavors.
I now have bench mark times in both my marathon and half marathon times. In 2004 I ran a 2:54 Boston Marathon and in 2006 I ran a 1:19 half marathon at the Vancouver Adidas Half Marathon. The kicker for me is that I have achieved these times on far less training volume and time on the pavement or trails. It has allowed me to start my own personal training company and take my clients to realms of physical achievement they never thought possible. I wake up everyday knowing that I have to pass this on and it's truly a great gift when someone accepts it.
