| Pose Running Coach Sanya Syrstad teaching running
|
I was introduced to the Pose method of running after the 2006 Chicago Marathon where I ran 3:01 with painful plantar fasciitis.
I’d been hampered by this injury for two years leading up to the Marathon and after the race, I couldn’t even walk due to the pain. I contemplated surrendering to the thought that I was getting older and had to give up on prospective PR’s, but a small voice inside told me to call my long-time friend Lynn McFadden in Miami, who I knew was involved in a “running technique”.
I wasn’t sure what that truly meant, but in my desperation I was willing to try anything in order to heal. Little did I know that the phone call would mark a turning point in my running. I got together with Lynn shortly thereafter and started working diligently on form and strength exercises.
She was enthusiastic to teach me and help me understand the concepts behind Pose. In the following months under Lynn’s daily phone call instructions I practiced Pose running. Eventually, I met Dr. Romanov who gave me a series of track workouts as a template for my training under Lynn’s supervision.
I got hooked on it. My times were faster and I was staying injury free! I couldn’t believe it. Since I started Pose, I placed second internationally at the 2007 US Masters Nationals and first for the US. My 5K PR as a master’s runner is 17:27, and in winter of 2008 I got a bronze medal at the US Indoor Masters Nationals for 3000m.
I am currently training for the Outdoor Masters Nationals as well as World Championships in Finland next summer. I truly believe that these achievements would not have been possible without Lynn’s coaching and Dr. Romanov’s Pose Method concepts.
More importantly, I have confidence that at the age of 42 I can continue to PR with my running times and stay injury free. Having a hopeful future in running is a gift from life. In addition, the Pose Method has been especially inspiring and intriguing to me with its emphasis on developing perception and understanding about the importance, and function of thoughts in performance, which I also know and work with in my professional field - psychology . Therefore, I too decided to join the Pose coaching family by becoming Level 1 coach with a goal to continue to learn and to share this magic knowledge with others.
