Growing up in Richmond VA, Spencer excelled at being a natural swimmer. In his early teens Spencer received coaching from Princeton's NCAA swimming star, Chris Howard. During this time Spencer achieved Championship status in his age group.
In college Spencer decided to do a marathon. During training Spencer was introduced to the heel strike method by a friend. In 2001 during his triathlons, Spencer suffered from tendonitus in his knees due to the improper heel-strike method. In 2005, Spencer attended Mike Magio's POSE presentation at the Austin Triathlete Club. After taking Mike's clinic, Spencer quickly adopted POSE running which resulted injury free performance.
Due to POSE running, Spencer has competed and won in his age group in local Triathlons in Austin. In addition, he competes and wins in Adventure and Urban Clue Solving races.
Spencer has years of teaching experience as a business coach and a software instructor. Spencer is passionate about teaching people how to run faster, more joyfully, and injury free using the POSE method.
