It happened, and now the First Annual Pose Tech Coaches Conference is history. In spite of mental and physical fatigue, I am highly energized by the wealth of experience and feeling of satisfaction from the intense work and tremendous amount of information after the conference. This get together was incredibly valuable for me and the other 10 coaches from 3 countries, who descended upon the beautiful Deco Drive of South Beach of Miami, Florida, to share ideas and improve coaching skills in teaching the Pose Method of running. I learned a lot from this meeting and was happy to share with my devoted colleagues my knowledge and experience. Those, who missed the conference, missed a great opportunity for personal development and advancement of knowledge.

Welcome Party at Dr.Romanov's
|
Attendees, me, as the founder of the Pose Method, Connie Sol and Lynn McFadden, Pose Tech Level 3 coaches from Miami, Florida; Michael Collins, Level 3 coach from Irvine, California, Michael Russo, Level 1 coach from Melville, NY, Nanes Maza and Nelly Becerra, Level 2 coaches from México City, Mexico; Francisco Guzman, Level 2 coach from Veracruz, Mexico; Dorys Langlois, Level 1 coach from Montreal, Canada; Joe Sparks, Level 2 coach from Toledo, Ohio; Vladimir Resnikov, Level 1 coach from Minneapolis, Minnesota, spent a lot of time in the classroom discussing theory and practiced on a track and on the sand of Miami Beach.
The number of participants seemed to be right for a high quality work of sharing ideas as a group. Their openness of mind, commitment to teaching Pose Method was the fundamental common ground for the open discussion of hot issues of teaching technology, including personal lack of knowledge, our significant weaknesses, which were addressed by us, so that we could continue our progress. We moved from one topic to another discussing our understanding of the conceptual science of Pose Method, drills execution and their proper selection for the correction of specific errors, things needed to be done to help coaches get together more often to share ideas, to improve teaching, to stay current with the most recent concepts and drills used in teaching.
The purpose of the Pose Tech conference was to bring the leading and most devoted coaches together to discuss a new stage of development of Pose Method as the New Paradigm in running. It's our honest and deepest desire to share our knowledge about the Pose Method, and to develop and deliver the highest quality products to the running community around the World. We want to elevate running to a more efficient performance level, with less injuries and develop a happy running community.
In order to realize our dream we need to develop a system of education and delivery of educational products, where the most important part will be played by our coaches, whose knowledge and professional skills will be the corner stones of our future success. During 3 days of November 11, 12 and 13, our coaches presented several topics related to the Pose Method foundation and development. Among the topics were the following: A Conceptual Theory of Movement, the Science of Pose Method of Running, Framing (Division into Frames) of Teaching by Dr. Romanov; Cadence Management By Using A Tempo Trainer by Michael Collins; Video Analysis of Running Technique, Strength Training in Running, Injuries and Running Technique by Dr. Romanov; Coaching Certification and Re-certification, Developing A Successful Business by Connie Sol.
In the open discussion forum the coaches discussed a draft program for the development of the efficient teaching procedure, the use of drills and equipment, writing of manuals and books, production of videos, which will allow them to bring the Pose Method to runners and triathletes of different levels. Other than Pose Method, running techniques and methods of teaching were subjects of discussion as well. I have to make a note here, using Michael Collins' terminology, that although other methods do use copy-cat terms for many Pose Method concepts and drills, they miss entirely the most vital details and describe movement inaccurately, which makes it impossible to be performed according to their "prescriptions". I agree with Michael Collins completely, when he says that "Pose Method is not a buffet line where you can take what you like and leave out what you don't want". He is absolutely right here and I can't add anything to that.

Michael Collins presenting one of the topics

Michael Collins and I decided to write an article explaining the fundamental differences between several teaching methods on the market at the present time. All attendees agreed that at the present time coaches in the running field lack scientific knowledge and understanding of running technique and ways of teaching it. Therefore there is an urgent necessity to have an efficient method allowing the coaches to teach successfully the skill of movement to runners, triathletes and fitness seekers.

Group practice, perfecting Pose on the Beach
|
I was happy to see that we found a common ground for our work in the future as a group, that we came to the conclusion that the Pose Method is a high quality product with a great potential for improvement. We recognized that for the development of better understanding and teaching, it is necessary to increase our theoretical and practical knowledge through the usage of the Pose Tech website, diverse learning programs, clinics and seminars, through preparation of higher level Pose Tech coaches through different certification programs, and through international Pose Tech coaching network around the World.
Almost a week passed after the conference, but we are all still on fire and are still exchanging our ideas and proposals over the e-mail, trying to record all fresh impressions and thoughts inspired by this meeting. Yes, it was indeed something that we needed to bring up and open as a powerful source for our development. No words can express my gratefulness to all coaches who came to our first conference. Dear friend of mine, Lynn McFadden, was always there to support me and Connie in the preparation of the conference. My whole family was working toward the conference all the way through, including the website part, and preparation of hotels and conference rooms.
I would like to express my appreciation separately to my friends and colleagues, Michael Collins and Connie Sol, who basically initiated and stimulated the idea of the conference. Connie, whom I know for more than10 years and on whom I can always rely in my work and in friendship, did a tremendous and fabulous job to prepare the conference and successfully run it. Michael, whom I met during our mutual work in USAT junior Olympic development program in 1997 in Roswell, NM, was very sharp and efficient with ideas and suggestions as to the improvement of our work, structure of clinics, system of advertising and many other aspects, in addition to his personal advices to me as to how to make my work more efficient. Without such outstanding collegiate work the conference couldn't have happened and been such a success.
To say that this conference took place in a friendly atmosphere is an understatement. Our collective work changed our attitude towards each other and sparkled a creative fire in everyone, which I continue to experience now. It's such a joy!
We made a plan to run the future Pose Tech conferences on the West Coast, in Mexico and in Europe during 2006 to give an opportunity to other Pose Tech coaches to experience this too and grow in their professional field.
