HOW TO CLEAN YOUR RUNNING SHOES
We've discussed already what shoes are best for running and now that you got yourself a pair, how do you keep them clean and smelling fresh especially with all this talk of various weather conditions and sockless running going on?
Well, there are various suggestions and we thought we'd post here the ones that we personally prefer and recommend.
- Old school traditional time consuming cleaning
This of course is tried by almost all of us. We've all sat there cleaning shoes for hours with a pencil eraser or wet cloth, washing shoe laces and the shoes by hand with soap hoping it'll all come out - the stains, overall darkening of color and the smell.
If you do choose this type of cleaning, go for the white color soap especially if your shoes are white or light color and choose a soap that is very fragrant. Use an old tooth brush or any other strong sponge to clean out the soles of your shoes. Clean the top with a wet cloth and soap. Done. Let it air dry.
Nothing of course replaces the old fashioned good and true wash by hand but who's got the desire or time now? Wouldn't you rather go for a jog or take a nap?
- Easy on your hands and time - machine wash
Now, there is a better way! Especially if you run in Puma's H Street with a mesh top.
Like so many of our forum users suggested, and we agree, get OxiClean ® Laundry Detergent it'll take out the stains and the smell without damaging the shoes, get the laces out, get the inner sole out or leave it in if it's still glued, throw the shoes and laces into the washing machine (or put them into mesh washing bags) on an "easy care" cycle and let it spin! Run an easy dry cycle with a mild heat or air dry. That's it! You're done.
Keep running sockless and don't worry about puddles!
With all the money you will save on shoes now, you can actually splurge on Pumas in different colors... only because you want to!
