Athletic Experience
Jim started his competitive athletic career by entering a local 5K. His involvement was slow at first but accelerated to success in the 5K to half marathon distances.
After running his first marathon in 2:56, he learned to swim and began training for one of the early Chicago Triathlons. Simultaneous to triathlon training and competition, he continued to compete in and improve at road races resulting in new personal records of 16:48 in 5K and a 34:55 10K.
From the beginning of his entry into triathlons, he was always known for blistering run splits. Over time his swimming and cycling improved to the point where he began to place in top 3 of the 35-39 age group. As the 40-44 age group came and went local competitors that had previously come in ahead of him were slowed by injuries or dropped out of the sport. By the 45-49 age group further skill improvements had left all almost all local competitors behind. As he approaches the 50-54 AG a future goal is to qualify for the USAT national team at the Olympic distance.
Coaching Background
His degree in industrial engineering and professional background in manufacturing efficiency, helped organize methods for him to effectively train for endurance events. As a runner and a triathlete he became increasingly interested in what training methods worked and which ones did not. His style has always been to train in an organized manner focusing on, consistency, high quality and low mileage.
This interest first in self coaching/sports science motivated him to become an ACE certified personal trainer in 1997 and to start CZI Training Systems. From observing good and bad swimming technique for years he later applied the same mindset to running technique.
Through practice and intensive seminars Jim has converted his stride to the POSE method of running. In March of 2003 he became a certified POSE method coach and has now merged this technique with other multi sport testing and coaching services.
