JACK BECKER - 3:21 Marathon PR
I never wrote anything about one particular person, but man, Jack deserves it. I would like to add my own congratulations to those of many others who were happy to find out about his racing performance. It's not just an incredible PR of someone who made his journey to the marathon. It was a discovery of the man who showed us an approach which is brand new for the age group competitive runners.
I enjoyed reading his post race comments and answers to the questions asked by our forum readers. There are lots of things there interesting to anyone who wants to build a successful marathon training and performance, from race planning to training, to pre-race course check and racing strategy, from developing technique, strength, and flexibility to planning unpredictable factors influencing training process.
I would like to emphasize Jack's solid approach to training, based on his research about various theories and concepts and observation of different coaches and scientists. After all he was able to develop his own way of training and stay committed to it through every single training session. It's a pleasure to see how well he implemented some concepts about a recovery to 120 beats per minute into his training process. I would also agree with his opinion that it's better to measure volume by time than by mileage.
I fully support his understanding of the importance of technique for training regardless of type. This statement was proven by Jack not only by running his PR, but also by not "having blisters and hamstring problems, no soreness above mid calf area anywhere on the body, ease of movement after the race".
Obviously it's a pleasure to know that Jack can articulate his vision of training and technique so well and can bring it to large audiences in layman terms and with his trademark diplomacy. I highly respect him and appreciate his input and dedication to bringing his knowledge to everyone who wants to learn and develop his own abilities. I know how many people benefit from his active work on our forum and want to thank him on behalf of all of them including me.
With kindest regards,
Dr.Romanov

Yes, you read that correctly. Jack is 59 and ran a 3:21 marathon this morning. This fantastic performance was born out of attention to form and miles and miles, often run at 4:00 a.m. to avoid (sometimes not possible) the Texas summer heat. If you are looking for "proof" or inspiration, there it is.
