IS IT WORTH IT TO LEARN POSE METHOD?
The last thing I want to do now is to start promoting and selling the
Pose Method. But people ask this question every single day and I have to answer it again and again. So I have to repeat myself. What I usually say to our students at each clinic is that I am not trying to persuade anyone, change anybody's mind and sell some product. The Pose Method philosophy is a philosophy of sharing our limited knowledge of how to think, perceive and perform running.
I am sure that it will help you, no matter at what level you run and what distances you specialize in. I am sure that it will help you to avoid injuries or recover from them, if you already have them. I am confident about this because of my positive experience with thousands of runners from all continents, of different genders, nationalities and levels. I am not claiming any benefits that people attribute to the Pose Method, but I am bringing up the data from our experience. Not everything I say is confirmed by science yet. But what other running technique is confirmed by science? We are all trying our best to make another step towards the truth, which, by Leonardo da Vinci's expression, is a "daughter of time".
Are you upset that you need to postpone your training activity and sacrifice this time for learning? If you are able to learn something new and still keep everything else as it was, then go for it and work on your technique. What if you can't? Ask yourself if you ever learnt something radical in your life without re-adjusting your focus, time, efforts and money? If you can give yourself a positive answer, then you're an extraordinary person. If not, then you have to change your life routine to get what you think is worth of your efforts, time and money.
Unfortunately, in many cases I deal with the people who came to the conclusion of the necessity to change their way of running, when running itself became almost impossible. At that time it's quite a simple choice. And what was holding them to think about it before? Old habits, conservatism and lack of knowledge, fear of change and comfort of the existing routine. Pain was never considered as a signal of incorrect running technique and then, there we are.
So how to approach this problem and solve it? First of all, you need to understand that changing and learning a new technique is not a luxury or fashion, but a necessity to keep your running life healthy and successful. Second, you need to know what is this running technique about. Third, you need to find out, how to learn it by yourself (book, DVD,
forum, etc.),
with a coach (if you have one in your area), by
attending our clinic.
You need some technical backup to help yourself while you are going through learning and correcting your errors. You need some gadgets, such as a video camera to see yourself from aside, a
tempo trainer to manage your cadence,
stretch cords to help you get proper
perception of pulling the feet from the ground,
thin soled shoes to feel your ground contact more precise, etc. You need to set up your mind as a student on learning everything about yourself: your senses, emotions, thoughts, fears and be honest with yourself. Do not get cranky, when nothing goes as you thought it would, but try to understand, why. Does it look like a painful process? But this is how it is. It's not good or bad, it's just learning. Can you manage this? If your answer is, yes, then you'll get something worth of your efforts -a joy of your faster and injury free running.
