2 REASONS TO WORK ON MAINTAINING GOOD FORM
There are plenty of reasons to work on achieving a proper technique in any sport of your choice and there are even more reasons to work on maintaining that technique. These tasks require focus and dedication, but the return on your investment of time and effort could be of unprecedented heights.
One thing is for sure, if you ignore your form, it will not get any better and will most likely only get worse over time, but if you work on it, then at the very least you can bet on staying injury free and in the best case scenario - experiencing continuous progress.
- CONTINUE PROGRESS. Technique is a skill, it is not something that stays at the same level of development, it requires constant attention. That probably doesn't sound too attractive, but that's the price of staying on top of your game. Even the basic level of maintenance of proper technique requires effort and it won't allow you to slip into a comfort zone where you do things on autopilot which normally leads to hitting a plateau where you no longer improve. When you constantly work on various details of your movement, you automatically continue your development on more levels than one and certain level of progress is inevitable.Your ability to maintain your technique is also an indicator of progress in your mental and psychological conditioning. Over time, even the smallest steps of your progress will eventually accumulate to pretty impressive personal achievements.
- STAY INJURY FREE. Majority start looking for "proper form" to learn to do something better and faster, a correct sport technique by default also helps stop and avoid almost all sport movement related injuries. A good form allows for a "smoother ride" whatever your sport is. By maintaining your proper technique you will ensure proper usage of your body and limbs and will remain injury free.
Great running, like excellence in golf, gymnastics or ballet is really a physical manifestation of extremely strong mental ability. When we stop working on our technique, we consciously make a decision to stop our own progress. And since this is not what we want - we must continue our work.
