DOUBLE DUTCH - OFFICIALLY APPROVED VARSITY SPORT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF NYC
NEW YORK CITY, New York/ PTPRESS/ -- As reported today on
CNN's Headline News by
Robin Meade on her
Morning Express Show the popular
Double Dutch will become an officially sanctioned varsity sport in city public schools in the spring of 2009.
This is great news for kids in NYC since
jumping is one of the greatest exercises ever and can singlehandedly help improve health and avoid obesity. It is a lot easier to get the kids to exercise when it's fun. Not too many people exercise for the sake of just doing it, majority start leading more active lifestyles and actually exercising by recommendation of a doctor or by simply realizing that non active life style eventually leads to numerous health issues that virtually nobody can avoid.
New York City, one of the leaders of fashion is now gearing up to be the leader in health. Implementing sport programs like
Double-Dutch into a school system is a great step forward for a physical culture school system that is pretty much out of date, unless you're talking about baseball, basketball and football of course.
United States is arguably the most obese nation in the world, and finally things are being done in an attempt to change that. Instead of making huge promisses or trying to allocate enormous funding for various health and medical programs, making small and seemingly unnoticable steps like instating a simple
jump rope exercise program into all schools nationwide would surely make the difference we're all looking for. 10 years from now our children will thank us for it. And even if they don't - the improved lifestyle of our tots will speak for itself and as parents that's all we want at the end of the day - a better life for our children.
