CHUVASH PARALYMPIANS SCORE 14 MEDALS AT THE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP OF RUSSIA

CHEBOKSARY, RUSSIA/ PTPRESS/ -- 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals - 14 in total is the latest score for the Chuvash Republic Disabled Team members at the recent Russian Track & Field Championship for the Disabled Athletes. The Championship took place in
Khanty-Mansiysk from 25th to 30th of June, 2009. The Republic of Chuvashia was represented by the students of the Chuvash Republic Olympic Reserve Sports School.
Elite Disabled Athletes, Paralympic Champions and medalists from thirty three regions of Russia took part in this competition. They competed in ten disciplines that included various distance
running,
high and
long jump, as well as
javelin and
discus throw, and
shot put.
The interests of Chuvash Republic were represented by the Paralympic Team member
Yulia Linevich, her champion friends
Elena Ivanova and Tatiana Sobakaeyva, as well as
Boris Maslennikov, Anton Orlov and Vitali Mitrofanov.
Yulia Linevich won Gold Medals in
javelin and
discus throw. She also won Silver Medals in
Shot put and
200m. Elena Ivanova won four Silver Medals in
100m, 200m and
400m, as well as a member of a women's
relay team.
Tatiana Sabakaeva showcased a successful performance as well by winning 100m, 200m and 400m in her category. Vitali Mitrofanov took Silver in Shot put.
Boris Maslennikov and Anton Orlov both took Bronze in 100m and Javelin Throw respectively.
Based on the results of this Championship a Russian National Team will be formed. Later in 2009 the team will travel to India to compete at the World Championship for Disabled Athletes. The selected members will also compete at the 2012 Paralympic games in London, UK.
